Drawing on implementation and design experience, this talk delineates the boundary between blockchains, as commonly realized (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum), and immutable databases (Datomic, etc.).

We'll explore areas where blockchains might benefit from paying attention to immutable databases, and imagine what a permissionless, collaboratively schematized global database --- a blockchain database --- might look like.
