Talks:
Arijit Mukherji: Strategies for Docker & Kubernetes Monitoring

Monitoring microservices environments is hard. Monitoring containerized microservices environments is harder. This talk discusses how to holistically think about monitoring Docker and Kubernetes environments, what makes it hard (scale, churn, complexity) in spite of numerous OSS tools available, strategies and technologies (like service mesh) that can help address those challenges.

Speaker Bio:

Arijit is CTO at SignalFx. As the first employee of the company, Arijit has spent years designing, developing, and managing many aspects of the product. He has been focused on the monitoring space for more than a decade, in a career that has also spanned IP telephony, VoIP conferencing, and network virtualization. Previously, he was one of the original developers of Facebook’s metrics solution (ODS) and subsequently managed the development of Facebook’s networking tools, data visualization, and other infrastructure monitoring software.

Alex Hidalgo: Implementing SLOs for Service Reliability

SLOs are all the rage, but for many people they end up being more talk than action. Let's discuss how to actually implement these concepts for your service and how you can use error budgets to help drive your decisions.

Speaker Bio:

Alex Hidalgo is a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Squarespace and has been a Site Reliability Engineer since 2011. During that time he has developed a deep love for sustainable operations, metrics and monitoring, and using error budgets to drive almost every decision. Alex's previous jobs have included IT support, network security, restaurant work, t-shirt design, and hosting game shows at bars. When not sharing his passion for technology with others, you can find him scuba diving or watching college basketball. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner Jen and a dog named Taco. Alex has a BA in philosophy from Virginia Commonwealth University.
