Open Source in Fintech Event Series – December 2019 James M.

4 December 2019

Edinburgh

Added 01-Jan-1970

Join us on 4 December for the inaugural event of the Edinburgh Open Source Fintech Meetup, with three fantastic speakers:

• Reg Wilkinson, Software Engineering Lead – Debit Card Systems, Lloyds Banking Group
• Colin Eberhardt, Technology Director, Scott Logic
• Calum Miller, Director/Owner, Millersoft Ltd

AGENDA

6:00 // Arrival, pizza and refreshments

6:30 // Welcome from James McLeod, Director of Community, FINOS

6:40 // ‘Why I ♥ Open Source’ // Colin Eberhardt

At work, Colin spends a lot of time talking about the commercial benefits of open source software, and more broadly the business benefit of engaging with the open source community. However, in this talk he'll be sharing a more personal viewpoint, talking about the reasons why he contributes to open source projects, and the benefits it has to him as an individual.

7:00 // Lightning talk

Calum will present and demonstrate an end-to-end system for the real-time analysis of payments using open source tools like Pentaho Kettle, Apache Kafka, Apache Druid and Apache Superset, and will describe how open source software opens doors into some of the world’s biggest companies for niche developers.

If you would be interested in giving a 15-minute lightning talk at a future event, please message co-organisers Claire Cocks or James McLeod via Meetup.com here https://www.meetup.com/Edinburgh-Open-Source-Fintech-Meetup/members/?op=leaders.

7:15 // Break

7:30 // Pipeline acceleration using Open Source at Lloyds // Reg Wilkinson

With Lloyds Engineering gaining wide renown for their transformation of Mainframe DevOps, Reg and the team will guide us through their engineering pipeline, paying particular attention to open source and where InnerSource has enabled acceleration.

8:00 // Networking and refreshments
