Are you looking for an iOS job?

How your iOS skills can help you

The world of iOS apps continues to develop quickly this year with a multitude of new technologies widening what mobile applications can do in every aspect of our lives. At the same time we need to be aware that 93% of the market is free apps so much of the focus may also be on in-app advertising and marketing within an app and different ways to monetise your app.

IoT technology has come on at a great pace recently  and Apple has already launched its HomeKit allowing you to control your IoT devices from their platforms. iOS iBeacon technology has also matured to become reliable and is now suitable for personal use at home. Apple is encouraging mobile app developers to launch applications for Apple Watch 2 and Apple Watch 3 is being released in September. GPS and Beacon technology is also being used for advanced marketing and integration into cars, kitchens, lighting and home appliance control. Beacon technology will also help the iPad, iPhone and Mac laptop increase market share as iOS integrates to these devices and is used through the cloud for commercial reasons and marketing more. Apple believes in ‘cloud technology future’ and is continuing to develop its cloud component so that new features will be able to work across all devices. iOS mobile developers are also now finding Augmented Reality (AR) and GPS technology a must especially as 3D games become more common.

All of these advances come with a down side however and security with iOS 3 may become an issue especially as it becomes more Open Source. International Standards can’t arrive fast enough to safeguard mobile apps especially for those who carry out personal tasks such as banking.

The uptake of Swift now that it is Open Source as ‘the’ language for Apple developers has also made the platform easier to use to create advanced applications and Swift 3 will help develop apps for iOS, watchOS and tvOS.

There is still high demand for developers with either iOS and Android skills because of the continuous focus on mobile development and if you have knowledge and experience of both platforms, even better.  It is expected that 50 billion devices will be connected to the internet by the end of 2020 so you’re in a great market for the foreseeable future. Demand for Permanent jobs in the UK is similar to last year whilst contract has increased by 5% although permanent still takes up 73% of the total market. The iOS platform according to StackOverflow is the 6th most loved, 10th most dreaded and 4th most wanted by developers globally so overall it’s pretty positive all round and your future looks bright.
