Building Exchanges on Corda (wk1)

5 November 2019

London

Added 01-Jan-1970

A 6 week "extended-hackathon" organised by Corda Code Club, hosted by RBS and on the theme of “Building Exchanges on Corda”.

With the recent launch of the Swiss Stock Exchange’s Corda-based SDX and ChainThat’s Corda-based RICAP Insurance Risk and Capital Exchange, this is both a hot topic and a relatively new area to explore.

Every Tuesday evening (6-8pm) for six weeks participants will both learn Corda whilst building their own Cordapp as part of a hackathon-style competition. On the first night you form up into teams of 4 or 5, the general use-case will be presented and on the last night teams will present their final Cordapp to a panel of prestigious judges.

A basic Cordapp will be provided to allow developers to focus on solving the business problems.

THIS EVENT IS SUITABLE TO BOTH THOSE WHO ARE NEW TO CORDA AND THOSE WITH MORE EXPERIENCE.

FOR BEGINNERS
Each team will have a mentor who will be there to introduce Corda to the newbies and help them get to a point where they are contributing to the development of the Cordapp by week 3. If you’re new to Corda and you want to learn this will be an invaluable chance to learn alongside other newbies whilst having an experienced mentor there to help you understand how Corda works in person. Our mentors are volunteers, and although they are extremely experienced at mentoring people new to Corda, naturally your learning is your responsibility, this is not an opportunity to be spoonfed.

FOR THOSE WITH MORE EXPERIENCE
As a platform Corda is ideal to build a distributed exchange on, with many possibilities for algorithmically matching and sharing real-time pricing data between separate parties. We invite you to let your imagination run wild and build any kind of exchange you want – from vintage cars to electricity prices, fishing rights, financial asset classes, delivery services etc etc. And of course should you choose to there are exciting developments like R3’s Open Sourced Corda Settler and the Corda Token SDK, as well as the Open Source Cordite toolkit to get stuck into!

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
-> Professional Software Engineers interested in Corda
-> Members of the Cordarati
(We will ensure teams have a balance of Corda experience to make the competition as fair as possible)
