• What we'll do
Microservices and containerisation has changed all aspects of IT, including they way we're monitoring our services. For this meetup we're going to learn about… Prometheus! This tool has been gaining recognition from the open-source community over recent years. Prometheus is an open-source systems monitoring toolkit and time-series database built in 2012 with a very active developer and user community. It joined the Cloud Native Computing Foundation in 2016 as the second hosted project, after Kubernetes.

A few key features:
* Multi-dimensional data model with metric names and key/value pairs
* Flexible query language
* Configurable via static config file or service discovery
* Multiple modes of graphing and dashboarding support

We will install our very own Prometheus server, have a look at the various configuration options, learn the basics of the query language, and if time allows we'll see how to visualise our data.

A few things to keep in mind:
* No prior knowledge is required.
* You do not need to download anything or create any accounts prior to the event. A cloud instance will be provided which you will require a SSH client to access.
* Food and drinks will be provided at the end of the playground.
* As this is a hands-on, please remember to bring your laptop :-)

Hope to see our regulars plus some new faces!
