Insights from Mobile World Congress 2018

1 May 2018

London

Added 28-Sep-2018

Although attendance was down slightly at this year's Mobile World Congress — the world’s biggest and most influential mobile event, which took place in Barcelona from 26 February - 1 March 2018 — with 107,000 visitors from 205 countries and territories compared with 108,000 last year, there was definite progress in balancing the gender ratio. Approximately 24% of attendees were female, an increase from 23% in 2017, and 28% of speakers in the conference program were female, compared with 21% last year.

This year, MWC showcased 5G, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), content and media, drones, blockchain, policy and regulation, and many other topics (including the announcement that Vodafone and Nokia plan to build a lunar telecoms network). 2018 also marked the second year of the Women4Tech event, which focuses on reducing the gender gap and championing diversity in the mobile industry.

For those of us who weren't able to make it to Barcelona, Women in Telecoms & Technology has once again assembled a panel of experts to bring us news and views from the 2018 show.

WiTT founder and board director Stephanie Liston will lead our panel. We are delighted to announce that she will be joined by:

  • Dr. Mike Short,Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for International Trade;

  • Louise Easterbrook, CFO, GSMA; and

  • Dimitra Simeonidou, Director Smart Internet Lab, University of Bristol.

  • Other speakers will be announced soon.

The evening will run as follows:

6:00-7:00pm: drinks & networking

7:00-8:00pm: panel

8:15: wrap-up and more networking.

We would like to thank the GSMA for hosting this event.

Come join the discussion, network, and learn about the hottest topics from MWC!

We look forward to seeing you on May 2nd.
